Congratulations to our National Art Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society inductees. We are so grateful for our Milford community’s support for the Visual and Performing Arts.
Mastery Based Diploma Assessment
The Mastery Based Diploma Assessment (MBDA) is a graduation requirement with this year’s senior class. This one credit experience provides our seniors with an opportunity to reflect on their years as a Milford Public Schools student in alignment with the district’s Vision of the Learner. On January 23, 2023, the seniors will gather in a special advisory session to learn about this opportunity. In subsequent advisories throughout the month of February, they will document their personal reflections. While the seniors are engaged in this work, our 9 - 11th graders will be participating in a Say Something training session with Sandy Hook Promise through Zoom.
Milford hosted its inaugural city-wide Model United Nations Conference at Parsons Government Center on Tuesday, 10 January. Spearheaded by Mr. Phelan, this conference represents the culmination of the work students have been doing in Model UN class all semester - learning about the various organs of the United Nations, researching world problems and specific country’s perspectives, writing position papers, preparing for debate, challenging each other during modified and unmodified caucuses, collaborating on resolutions and, ultimately voting on “solutions” to world issues. Students from both Joseph A. Foran High School and Jonathan Law High School attended the day-long conference. The committees and topics for this year's conference were:
Crisis Committee: Russia-Ukraine 2014
United Nations Environment Programme: Water scarcity
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees: Venezuelan refugee crisis
Mrs. Amy Rizzo visited the UConn ECE If You Love It, Teach It students to share her experience as an English Teacher, Library Media Specialist, and her current work for our district in professional development. Students were able to hear from several guest speakers over the course of the semester to give them first-hand information and answer their questions.
This weeks Shape Up class participated in a QR code Fitness stations. Students were asked to scan the QR code and watch a video on how to perform the exercise. They all worked hard and did an excellent job.

The Health Professions Club welcomed Mr. Lou Elmo, an occupational therapist and adjunct professor at Quinnipiac University and Sacred Heart University (and a Foran parent!) to the Health Professions Club. Mr. Elmo taught the students about the role of an occupational therapist and demonstrated how to use various assistive devices when working with patients. Tyler Swartz is pictured learning how to use an assistive device to put on socks for patients who cannot bend over after hip replacement surgery.
This past December Key Club had a tie for the TOP Key Clubber in December. Congrats to Oliver Aubin and Oscar Lin. Mrs. GaNun is so proud of how hard these boys worked in volunteering this past month.
