Photography 1 Students Explore Science and Art
Photography 1 students captured images that document the phenomena of convection. Convection is energy that is transferred by the movement of matter, liquid, or gas. It occurs when a cooler, denser mass of gas or liquid replaces a warmer, less dense mass of gas or liquid by pushing it upward. Convection is the major factor in weather. The sun heats the earth’s surface and when cooler air comes in contact with it, the air warms and rises, creating an upward current in the atmosphere. The current can result in the wind, clouds, or other weather. Students used room temperature food coloring with either hot or cold water to photograph this exchange of energy. Enjoy these images created by Jace Bonilla-Flanaghan, Grace Kiernan, Chloe Marchesseault and Riley Smith.
