College & Career

ASVAB

The ASVAB test will be administered on Friday, November 4th. Interested juniors and seniors should see Mrs. Wunder to sign up and get a permission slip.

 

Representatives from all the different branches of the military will be visiting Foran throughout the month of November. Students interested in a career in the military and who would like to learn more should see Mrs. Wunder to sign up.

 


 Last Sunday October 23 was Mole Day. The Mole is a counting unit in chemistry. It is represented by Avogadro's number 6.022 x 10^23 power. On Monday October 24 and Tuesday October 25 Mr Connors Chemistry and Earth Systems celebrated the day learning about the mole and having Mole treats.

 

 

 

 

The Social Studies Department will be running their Annual Fundraiser to help the Homes For The Brave Organization from November 1st-12th. The Organization helps provide veterans with assistance in the form of donations and collection of goods. Click on the link below for suggested items. Each Social Studies Teacher will have a box in their room where you can donate items. Students can bring in items beginning Monday.

 In AP Psychology, students began group presentations for our sensation & perception unit as they selected 1 of the 5 senses (taste, touch, sight, hearing, vision) .  Included in every presentation, groups had to incorporate 2 interactive labs in which their classmates actively participated. 

 

 

 

  

Journalism news: 

The first 2022 Styling Newsprint Costume Gala happened today in journalism. Students had to collaborate to create an outfit and meet the criteria of writing a review, creativity, and following article writing format. Students interviewed their classmates, worked together, and presented awesome projects and writing!

Happy halloweekend! It is sure to be a weekend full of excitement and sugar, and the Mane Street Mirror has a series of articles to assist that relaxation and preparation.

Intro to Early Childhood Education visited Westbrook Nature School in Redding CT to observe the unique completely outdoor school environment.  Students were exposed to non traditional teaching strategies and guidance.

 

The CNA students learned how to perform an occupied bed linen change this week.



In Mr. Hair’s PE-1 classes students began more competitive game play in badminton and finished up fitness testing. Congrats to Dani Boutote on 80 pacer laps! I am proud of everyone’s effort on each test. Great job!

The TLC has opened up its Foran’s Good Reads Cafe with October’s Spooktacular Book Tasting events and hosted some of our English classes to come by for some “tastings”!  Students sampled various October themed books including, Mysteries, Thriller and Horrors!  They were instructed to record several titles after browsing their table’s selected books, delving in to read a chapter or two and rate their personal choices based on interest.  They will use these guides in the future to assist in making independent reading choices.


The Foran High School Athletic Department and The Foran Sports Booster Club have teamed up to honor a deserving varsity athlete each week of the season throughout the 2022-2023 school year. Each recipient will be recognized for their performance in the “Friday News” and they will also receive a tee shirt.

Senior Chloe Nittoly has been selected for her outstanding performance in Volleyball. Last week she had 20 assists and 5 aces. All season Chloe has done a great job encouraging her teammates and leading by example. Congratulations Chloe!

 

Boys Soccer

Boys soccer finished the week 2-0-1 with wins against Lyman Hall (2-0) and East haven (5-3) and a 0-0 Draw against Wilbur Cross to improve to 8-5-2 on the season and clinch a spot in both the class M state tournament and the SCC conference tournament.

September Key Clubber of the month is Ava Rohleder. She was awarded this past months recognition because Ava volunteered the most hours when compared to all 125 members. Extremely  proud and thankful for Ava’s dedication in taking time to volunteer and help our Milford Community.
