Students in Ms. Stamidis and Mrs. O'Keefe's English 2 classes worked cooperatively to solve an Escape Room activity on The Harlem Renaissance.  Students learned about major figures in this movement and gained some background on the thinkers, musicians, and artists of this time.

Journalism 1 students organized, identified, and labeled different parts of the CT Post and NH register.

AP Research students are generating their individual topics of inquiry to embark on their research investigations.  We took time to participate in “Speed Dating with Informed Feedback” to provide one another with quality feedback to assist in topic choices from an audience member’s perspective.

Spanish 3 was practicing their vocabulary on camping and nature all week. They were able to touch upon all four communication skills (reading, speaking, listening, and writing) in this activity pictured! Students even got a chance to test out their art skills as well to show their comprehension.

Mrs. GaNun’s Period 3 & 6 Shape Up classes participated in a yoga and meditation routine. Students enjoyed having the opportunity to  recharge during their day.

All PE-1 classes are engaging in an ultimate frisbee/ ultimate football unit. They’re learning about small sided and large group games along with foundational principles.

Students in Methods of Teaching and Learning have started planning and implementing learning experiences in the child learning center.

Culinary 1 is enjoying the egg and dairy unit. They've prepared omelets,  utilized knife skills, and made  homemade chocolate pudding as well.

The Advanced Culinary class has enjoyed savory dishes, as we embark on our sauce unit with a bechamel AlFredo Sauce, and a white flatbread pizza.

Our new Bakeshop class is a huge success.  The students love it. We've prepared cheddar and chive biscuits, scrumptious healthy buttermilk pancakes  with chia seeds, oatmeal, and flax seeds. We ended the week with some fall flavor...pumpkin scones with a maple glaze.

Each recipient will be recognized for their performance in the “Friday News” and they will also receive a tee shirt.

The Foran Sports Booster Club Athletes of the Week

Jack Cushman and Josh Smith. Jack Cushman had over 400 yards passing and 6 total touchdowns. Josh Smith had over 100 yards receiving and two interceptions. Both of their performances on Friday night were critical in the Lions securing their first victory of the season.  Congratulations Jack and Josh!

Football

On Friday night the Foran Lions defeated the Weston Trojans in double overtime 43-41.  Jack Cushman contributed with over 400 yards passing and 5TDs in the air.  Joe Gaetano and Josh Smith both had two 2 receiving touchdowns and the offensive line did a great job paving the way.  Defensively,  Josh Smith added 2 interceptions (both during overtime) and Aiden Grant recorded 3 sacks in a tremendous effort from his DE spot.  Come support the Lions and donate to Alex's Lemonade Stand this Friday at home 7:00.

Volleyball

The Girls Volleyball team fought hard in our Stamford tournament this past weekend. They lost to Brian McMahon 3-0 and to Stamford 3-1. Chloe Nittoly and Gracie Brooks both won All-Tournament MVP for the weekend. They have two games this week and are looking for some great W's.

Boys Soccer

Boys Soccer kicked of the season with a hard fought loss at number 3 Cheshire.  The lions fell 3-1 with Luke Hackett getting the Foran goal. Stellar defensive performances from Nico Agresti and Liam Young kept us in the game and a strong attacking second half fell just short.

The lions followed up with a 4-1 win at home against North Haven.  2 goals from Jack D’Avignon were sandwiched with tallies from Christian Boutote and Riley Young.

Girls Soccer

Foran soccer hosted SHA on Thursday (9/8) night.  We started off strong, controlling the tempo of the game.  We possessed, found feet, and attacked.  We led 1-0 off a Taylor LaFountain free kick.

In the second half, despite our best efforts, SHA scored 2 goals.  With 12 seconds left remaining in the game, we got a ball up the field and got a shot off before time expired.  Unfortunately it was saved by the SHA goalkeeper.  Goalkeeper Lauren Roth finished the game with 13 saves.

Foran soccer traveled to Hamden High School on Saturday afternoon (9/10).  We scored 3 quick goals in the first half- (Zoe Fallon, Isabella (Izzy) Fallon, and Colleen Ardolino.  At halftime, we were up 3-1.  We finished the match 6-3.  Colleen Ardolino added 2 more goals, and freshman Brooke Oliver scored her first goal as a Varsity player.  Goalkeeper Lauren Roth had 6 saves.

Lastly Foran played against a tough Branford squad.  We opened up play with a 1-0 lead, which we held through the half.  Branford answered with a PK.  We were relentless in our play and answered back with 2 more goals.  Zoe Fallon finished with a goal, and Colleen Ardolino finished with 2 goals.  Goalkeeper Lauren Roth made 14 saves off of 15 Branford shots.  The whole team played great soccer and never let our foot off the gas pedal.

Girls Cross Country

The girls' cross country team raced in the Stratton Brook Invitational this past Saturday in Simsbury. The team did very well, coming in 4th against 9 strong teams. Adrianna Gonzalez led the team, coming in 7th place overall with a time of 23:06.  She was followed by Olivia Dyki, Anna Harris, Nora Hayes, and Allie Regan who all came in the top 40 of nearly 80 runners. The team faces Mercy next week and will be racing in the Winding Trails Invitational next Saturday. Currently, their divisional record is 2-1. A great start to the season!

Boys Cross Country

This week the boys cross country team placed 2nd at the Neubauer Invitational at Sheehan High School. Notable finishes were Junior Max Newtown (7th overall), Senior Captain Kevin Chen (12th overall), and Freshman Joseph Meade (13th overall). The boys look forward to a very competitive week next week where they will go up at Xavier for a quad meet and at Winding Trails for an invitational meet.

Swimming

The Lady Lions made a big splash during their season opener against West Haven! Both swimmers and divers commanded the competition winning the meet 94-71. Notable events included Ellen Pan, Junior, winning both the 200Freestyle and the 100Backstroke qualifying for States in both events. Kaleigh Morton, Senior and Captain, took home two first place finishes as well in the 200IM and 100Butterfly, qualifying for states in both events. Foran swept the diving event with Riley Grunow taking home the win. The Lions also swam powerhouse Cheshire this week and faced some tough competition. Cheshire took the win 100-85 and though a loss, great efforts were had by Senior Sam Mauro and Sophomore Erin Morton who stepped up to the plate for their team and put in some great swims.
