Congratulations to Isabella Mema

2022 SCASA Award Recipient!

 

The South Central Area Superintendents Association Award was presented to Isabella Mema. Bella has had an amazing four years at Foran High School. She has made Honor Roll every year, is a member of our National Honor Society, and also the Tri-M Music Honor Society. She has demonstrated strong leadership as Co-Editor in Chief for our school newspaper, The Mane Street Mirror, and has been a member of our student government since her freshman year, serving as class president for two years.  She is passionate about music and has been a member of our choir and choir council since freshman year. Last year she was voted Choir Vice President and this year she is Choir President. She is a key member of our Drama Club and has participated in all of our school plays. During high school, she has been an active member of various clubs and organizations such as Natural Helpers, where she volunteered to participate in a wide range of school and community service activities. Additionally, Bella was selected to be a participant in the district and school Race, Equity & Social Justice Committee.  Bella loves Foran and loves learning.  She is passionate about making a difference in the lives of others while spreading kindness and compassion; she is an exemplary role model.


8th Grade Open House for Athletics

On Monday, May 9 th at 6:00 p.m., the Foran High School Athletic Department will be sponsoring an informational meeting for all incoming freshmen and their parents. The meeting will take place in the Edna Fraser Gymnasium at Foran High School......Athletic Procedures, Try-out dates and other important information will be discussed. Congratulations, Class of 2022 Seniors from School Counseling!!

All seniors must complete a School Counseling Graduation Survey in Naviance which indicates post-graduate plans, including where you will be attending school after graduation (if applicable), military, employment, gap year, etc.   All students are asked to complete this survey.  Please click on the attachment for the instructions.  The survey should take about 2 minutes to complete. 

  • If you are attending a trade school or four year college or university after graduation, a final transcript indicating the graduation date will automatically be sent to the school you chose in your survey.   

  • If you are attending a community college in Connecticut, a transcript will be sent to the student's milforded email address in late June/early July so they can upload it to their student account.  

  • If you do not complete the survey, we will not know where to send your transcript once you graduate.  

Final transcripts will be sent to colleges/post grad institutions in late June/early July.  If your information changes between now and then, please contact Mrs. Skuches in School Counseling at kskuches@milforded.org

 Reminder to all Senior Parents

DUES FOR GRADUATION EXPENSES: 

Graduation is set for Friday, June 17th at 5:15pm. As in past years, students will be required to pay $40 to cover the costs of graduation expenses, which includes cap, gown, and diploma cover. 

Please pay online at https://form.jotform.com/220765389144058. If you would prefer, you may pay by check made payable to Foran High School, or pay with cash. Checks or cash can be dropped off to a secretary in the main office.

Teacher Appreciation Week

Foran teachers and staff are amazing!  Day in and day out, they make a profound difference in the lives of our students.  They are kind and dedicated to helping our students meet with success. Make sure you thank them!

Last Thursday, 46 students of Latin attended Connecticut State Latin Day at Holiday Hill in Prospect Connecticut with hundreds of other students of Latin from all over the state. It was a fun day full of workshops, contests, painting, and various other activities connected with the ancient world of the Romans.

Interior Design students completed a classroom design for Mr. Balestriere. Mr. B was looking for a "fast and flashy" aesthetic mimicking the Stock Market trading floor with individual and group workspaces.  Congratulations to Julia O'Connell with the top design that Mr. B felt best met his vision!

In Mr. Hair’s PE class we finished up speedball and started ultimate football in competitive PE. In my PE-1 classes we finished up speedball and got outside to play ultimate capture the flag.

The Foran High School Athletic Department and The Foran Sports Booster Club have teamed up to honor a deserving varsity athlete each week of the season throughout the 2021-2022 school year. Each recipient will be recognized for their performance in the “Friday News” and they will also receive a tee shirt.

  The Foran Sports Booster Club Athlete of the Week

Junior, Xavier Douglas has been named Foran High School’s “Athlete of the Week” for his outstanding performance in Track. In only his second season competing in track and field, Xavier took first place in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump. His jump of 19 feet 6 inches in the Long Jump qualified him for the Class M State Championships. Xavier also runs the 100 Meter Dash and is a member of the 4 x 100 Relay Team.  Congratulations Xavier!

Signing with Chapman University where she will be a member of the Ladies Track & Field Team and will be competing in Pole Vault.



Celebrating Coach Skuches who was named the 2021 coach of the year for girls swimming by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association. 

 


Unified Sports

Congratulations to Unified Advisor Rick Raucci!

Rick received an award on behalf of CIAC Unified Sports for over 10 years of coaching Unified! 

Milford Unified Sports had our year end celebration this week as we went to Dave and Busters!  Partners and Athletes all took part in playing a ton of games and had a great time making new memories with one another!

  

 

  


Boys Track

The Boys Track Team captured their 6th victory of the season in a tri-meet against Hamden High School and Lyman Hall April 27th. Foran defeated Hamden 89-57, and lost to Lyman Hall 91-55 to bring their record to 6-1.   The following athletes took 1st place in their respective events:

Girls Lacrosse

The girls lacrosse team have improved their overall record to 11-1 with two big wins over Wolcott and Hamden this week.  Everyone has been contributing to the success of the lions as each game has been a true team win.  Below is a box score of the latest game, a thriller against Hamden.

Girls Track

This week the Girls Track and Field Team went up against Shelton, Law, and Hillhouse in a very competitive meet. They came up short in the end, but had some notable finishes. Freshman Adrianna Gonzalez came in 3rd in the 800 meter run with a time and PR of 2:43. Freshman Allie Regan came in 2nd in the 2 mile run with a PR of 14:12. Senior Captain Arezoo Ghazagh came in 3rd in the 400 meter run with a PR time and STATES QUALIFYING time of 1:04. Senior Ava Steigbigel finished 1st in Pole Vault and 2nd in Javelin throw with a PR distance of 78 feet and 8 inches.

BOYS TENNIS

This past week, despite their best efforts the Lions lost to Hamden (Thursday, 4/28, at home, 0-7). The matches were very close with Keith and Kyle Pokornowski (Doubles 1) losing in a second set tiebreak and Johann Chen and Devin Dai (Doubles 3) losing in a super tiebreak. On Tuesday (5/03), the team hosted East Haven and scored a key victory (7-0).  Josh Cummings and Oscar Lin (Doubles 2) had a narrow win with 10-3 in a super tiebreak. This brought the team's overall record to 8-4, meaning the Boys Tennis team has now qualified for the CIAC state tournament.  (Woot!)


Softball

Last Thursday, we traveled to North Haven for a night game. Kendall LaMorte was 1-4 with a HR in the loss.

After a rainout on Monday night at WH, we traveled to East Haven. After being down 7-1 in the 4th, we scored 6 runs in the next 3 innings, falling just short 8-7. Kendall LaMorte was 5-5 with 4 RBIs and 2 home runs. Both Chloe Nittoly and Morgan Viesselman had doubles. 

We have a home game against Divisional rival Hand on Friday at 3:45.


Baseball

The Lions began the week with wins over Harding and Wilbur Cross. The superb pitching efforts of Brian Massey and Brandon Payne lead the Lions to a 2 and 0 start. Dean Ross, Brandon Payne and Kyle Zarnoch highlighted the offense with multiple extra base hits and RBIs in both contests. The Lions will close out the week with away games at Wilbur Cross and Hamden
