National PI Day in the Math Department!

March 14th is National Pi Day! Pi is a constant value used in math that represents the ratio of a circumference of a circle to its diameter, which is just about 3.14. March 14th has become a day to emphasize math and science in some fun ways.

The E-Commerce and Entrepreneurship students are working to develop an online school store for Foran HS. As they build the business, they will be seeking feedback from stakeholders via surveys and other market research methods to make data based decisions.

Students Created Landscapes to Represent the Illusion of Depth and Space Using the Effects of Atmospheric Perspective

There are two types of perspective - atmospheric (also called aerial) and linear.  Linear perspective refers to the relative size of objects and how an object appears smaller as it recedes into the distance. Atmospheric perspective refers to how the atmosphere affects how we see objects as they recede into the distance. Atmospheric perspective indicates that as an object recedes into the distance relative to the viewer, we see that object with reduced clarity, value and color saturation. These scenes were created by Digital Media & Design students; Gracie Brooks, Sarah Kupson, David Maslar, and Nathan Rodriguez

Mr. Czajkowski's Painting Class has been working on creating a painting based on the posterization method, where the students try to break the picture down into three colors or tones. The artwork shown here was created by Amy Lahav, Emma Jani, Sinise Sanchez, Angela Graziani, and Gianna Weaver. Enjoy!

Students in Ms.Plude’s Sculpture & 3D Design class have just finished creating experimental environmental Sculptures. They used heat, pigments and repurposed plastic bottles to create a contemporary design influenced by the art of Dale Chihuly.

Here is an example created by  Sidney Jean-Baptiste

Students in Mrs. Plude’s Art for Seniors class have been working on creating Tiki God sculptures inspired by the Polynesion Culture. Each Tiki created had to encorperate at least one design element found in one of the four Tiki Gods: Ku, Lono, Kane and Kanaloa.

Here is an example created by Jileiny Gonzalez

Congratulations to Jason, Marissa, and Ariel; winners of the Shamrock Search. They found over 100 total shamrocks. Great job!!!

The Culinary ll class has been creating scrumptious recipes using various sauce techniques.  They made a veloute sauce (similar to a poultry gravy), and prepared the chicken the way wanted to. I call it an improvisational cooking lab. They don't have a recipe for the chicken, and they need to reflect and use the cooking techniques they've learned so far. They also prepared a red sauce with peppers, onion and sausage, served over pasta. We ended the week with a difficult sauce to execute properly...a Hollandaise sauce served over eggs Benedict.  I'm so proud of my students, as this sauce can easily break...separate.  They did a great job. Bravo!

Interior Design students are working on a culminating project addressing specific needs of a family and their lifestyle in their existing space. Students created a pitch for the family using floor plans and a specific budget.

The Foran Band celebrated #miosm with a workshop with Keith Johnston from Sacred Heart and their first performance indoors in over two years!  What an amazing night!
