Skyler Agresti Publishes 2nd Novel!

11th grader Skyler Agresti self-published her second novel.  Skyler took the Creative Writing elective last year and this year decided that she wanted to take an Independent Study with Mrs. O'Keefe with the goal of writing a novel, which she accomplished.  Skyler worked with Mrs. O'Keefe on outlining her vision, drafting her work, and revising and editing.  Ms. Dion, who is a writing tutor in Foran's Literacy Support Center, also helped Skyler with copy editing.  The novel is a suspenseful thriller with engaging characters.  You can purchase Skyler's novel on Amazon!

Today was her last day working at Foran and she is retiring!  She has been a great colleague and friend to our faculty and staff.  We thank Mrs. Johnson for her hard work, kindness, and teamwork. We wish her a very happy and healthy retirement!

We welcome back to Foran Ms. Kacey Golebiewski, who will be taking over for Mrs. Johnson.  Ms. Golebiewski previously worked at Foran as a paraprofessional and now she will be part of our main office team!  Welcome Ms. Golebiewski!

As part of their unit on Night, Elie Wiesel’s memoir about his survival at Auschwitz, students in Mrs. Cassell’s English 1 classes researched information about Holocaust victims and surviviors. The students accessed the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s database of people whose lives were directly impacted by the Holocaust.

After reading many ID cards, students chose one victim or survivor to honor by writing a short bio of them on one side of a paper star. On the flip side of the star, students wrote a short autobiography of themselves.

While this was a research activity, it was also an exercise in empathy. The stars represent the light of each human being amidst the darkness of the Holocaust. The double-sided biographies exemplify how, despite the stark differences of our lives compared to those in the Holocaust, we are still two sides of the same coin: humanity.

We hope to have the online school store up and running soon, so stay tuned. Our AP Research students utilized the Zen Den for a change of space to a relaxing area that promoted focus and assiduous execution of work on their academic papers as they embark on the final components of this task.  They also conducted interviews to continue to amass data for their results section.

Please assist our Research students in completing any surveys they are currently disseminating as part of their methodology process.  Students under the age of 18 are required to have a parent signature to partake in the survey.  We truly appreciate your support with this as our students are working diligently to garner responses to procure effective data for their research.
