Provide a learning environment which fosters critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication to prepare all students for the challenges of the 21st century.

Congratulations Amelia McGonigle!

Foran’s very own Amelia McGonigle recently won the "School of Rock " poster art contest. High School contestants were asked to create an original work of art in the media of their choosing that incorporated some musical elements in celebration of the opening of their new Milford location.

Amelia's work will be on display in the main lobby of the music school. We are thrilled she was chosen as she worked very hard on making a creative design that embodies the school's mission for learning the art of creating music.

This week, students in AP Spanish read, acted out and analyzed Gabriel García Márquez's famous short story, "Un Día de Estos".  Márquez was a Colombian writer who was honored with the Nobel Prize in 1982 for his most famous literary work- "Cien Años de Soledad", otherwise known as "One Hundred Years of Solitude".

In "Un Día de Estos", Márquez alludes to one of his recurrent themes: the effects of civil war on a country's inhabitants.  On this particular day, painful necessity forces the mayor of a small Colombian town to request the services of the village dentist, who also happens to be his political opponent.

In Mr. Dooling’s Ancient History classes they dived into the ancient record keeping of Mesopotamia and the origin of the alphabet.  After learning about ancient cuneiform, students created their own clay tablets, using a wood stylus. Many students decided to write their names or initials in the clay.

Mr. Czajkowski's Painting class has been working on abstract designs. Here are some of the creations completed by Amy Lahav, Allison Stefan, Amanda Pompa, Avery Izzo, and Jasmine Phung. Enjoy!

Students in Ms Plude’s Sculpture and AP Studio Art class have been hard at work. Here is an image of an Abstract Plaster Sculpture inspired by the work of contemporary Sculptor Andy Hawthorne. The other image is of a ‘Moment Frozen in Time’ mixed Media piece.

Here are pieces by  Ava Rohleder, Bianca Torres

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up." -Picasso

This week students in Child Development 1 explored the importance of process rather than product in children's art experiences to encourage their development. They participated in art stations that provided limited choice "product" based art with specific directions and exemplar examples. Next, they participated in art stations that explored open-ended "process" art where they were allowed free choice of materials, creativity and emphasized imagination.

Continuing with our sauce unit, Culinary ll prepared a delicious white pizza flatbread with a bechamel sauce, and turkey meatballs with a veloute sauce. Though these two sauces have few ingredients, it's a great lesson on patience and technique.

The Giving Table has officially served all of the Firehouses in Milford.  We prepared a giant tray of chicken pot pie for the North Side Firehouse,  and a rainbow salad filled with various vegetables. We thank all of our frontline workers for protecting our community and keeping us safe.
