Digital Photography Student Explore Visual Balance in Composition
Students created high contrast designs to represent the four types of visual balance of 2D Design.
Balance in art:
Symmetrical- arranging elements on either side of the center of a composition in an equally weighted manner
Asymmetrical- arranging elements of all different visual weights in such a way that each side is still balanced out
Radial- elements radiate out (in a circular shape) from one main center point
Crystallographic- Also called mosaic or “allover” balance, this type of balance is about repetition
Small paper squares were organized to create the desired type of balance and then photographed. Images were edited to enhance the contrast, adjust the white balance, and remove unwanted specks. Zane George created symmetry, Katelyn Ciesluk created asymmetry, Valeria Juliao created radial balance, and Ava Deitelbaum created crystallographic. Can you identify which design matches which type of balance?
Ms. Plude’s Ceramics and Pottery classes had the option of creating a thematic lidded container or a thematic lantern . Ceramic Container-Ava Rohleder, Ceramic Lantern-Joshua Cummings, Ceramic Mug-Brygid Sawitsky, Ceramic Bottle-Brygid Sawitsky
