Calculating statistics using hand made cars in Ms. Georgetti class!

#VroomVroom

Algebra meets athletics in an engaging outdoor activity! Students were tasked with the challenge of throwing a football at a variety of elevations and distances to explore the relationship between maximum height and time. By throwing the ball at different angles, students discovered how math connects to physics through velocity, speed and trajectory. Students related to NFL quarterbacks and truly learned to appreciate the precision it takes to create the perfect parabola from one quarterback to their receiver running out for a pass. Who knew there was so much math in sports!?

Mrs. Dooley's AP English Language & Composition classes are evaluating Line of Reasoning in a text. Students read Ralph Waldo Emerson's "Education" and Margarate Talbot's "Best in Class." Students worked to dissect the arrangement of the speakers' texts and evaluate the effectiveness of this arrangement.

Congratulations to all of the Fall Sport Seniors, including our Football players, Cheerleaders, and Marching Band performers that were recognized at last night's game. Here are the Mane Street Mirror articles that were published this past week:

Have a safe and relaxing Thanksgiving break next week!

AP Biology explored whether spinach leaves are just green as they performed chromatography on spinach leaves.  We learned a technique to separate the different pigments found in a leaf,  We discovered that there are other hidden pigments in spinach leaves,  helping us to understand the beautiful  colors of the leaves we see in the Fall.  We are continuing to learn about the role of these pigments in plants.

This week in AP Psychology with Mr. Williams, students tried to solve the Hex Nut Challenge which was applied in that day's class to explain both cognitive learning and observational learning.  Then to help students grasp the concept of operant conditioning, Milford Police Officer Steve Napoletano and his German Shepherd companion Mack came to Foran for a special presentation which was lined up by Foran's own SRO Officer Patrick Taylor.  The highlight of the day was seeing Mack in action  as Officer Taylor played the role of "the bad guy".

Spanish 3 has been reading a short story called ¨Ruidos en la Noche¨. We tested our retelling skills through a game called ¨Silent Film¨ where students

had to act out or draw scenes from the story. The rest of the class then wrote sentences describing what they saw. Here are some photos of their acting!

This week, Spanish 4 students in Mrs. Morazzini's class are learning how to write an AP Spanish persuasive essay.  The topic pertains to how students should choose a career.  Should one choose a career based on interest and passion, or choose a career that is in high demand that would provide job security?"

Students in AP Spanish are learning about global challenges, specifically those that impact the environment.  Students created posters, 3D visuals, and digital infographics to portray statistics and new learning about the importance of caring for the environment worldwide.

Digital Photography Students: Motion with Liquids, Part Two

Two weeks ago you saw Digital Photography students “in-action” as they were exploring the components of exposure by isolating shutter speed. Students were working with partners to either create a stop-action effect or the illusion of intentional blur within their images by selecting an appropriate shutter speed for their moving water.  As promised, here are some of their creations. These images are created by Kaylee Granfield, Chloe Marchesseault, Cam Paisley, Riley Smith, Talia Tatara, and Riley Young.

Students in Ms. Plude’s Ceramics classes are working on creating ‘Heritage Vessels’. They were asked to research ancient ceramic works from at least one of their nationalities, create a presentation and then an inspired functional vessel connecting history with their own vision.

Students from Ms. Plude’s Creative Arts class were asked to create ‘masks of emotion’ after participation in a discussion regarding what emotions colors symbolize in a variety of different cultures. They then created their mask to express how they are feeling this week.

With the new quarter curriculum for the health classes, health and safety II focuses a lot on communication, team building, and developing healthy relationships. In these photos you see the class participating in a team building activity of a tower building competition in the first week of class. Being able to problem solve, find creative solutions, and talk through situations makes for a fun class for the sophomores!

Interior Design: Interior design students started creating 3-D house models using Sketch Up to create space plans, model furniture, cabinetry, and accessories and experiment with colors and materials.

Culinary 1: Students prepared Peppermint Chocolate Cookies and Ginger Snap Cookies this week. The dessert unit is one of the favorites!

Culinary l students are enjoying the cookie unit... just in time for the holidays. The chocolate peppermint cookies are like a cup of hot cocoa with a hint of mint. That Thanksgiving aroma filling the hallways are ginger snap cookies....delish!

The Advanced Culinary class continued with our ginger theme, and prepared gingerbread with homemade whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce. Later in the week, we whipped up a rich chocolate mousse with chocolate shavings.

SENIOR PARENT & FAMILY AD

Congratulations on reaching this momentous stage in your child's high school years! Have you been looking for a creative way to tell your senior "I love you" and "I'm proud of you!" as they wrap up their high school career? If so, how about purchasing a Senior Parent and Family Ad in the yearbook?

To help you celebrate this milestone, the yearbook staff is now accepting orders for Senior Parent and Family Ads to be placed in the yearbook. These ads give you the opportunity to express your love, pride, and congratulations to the entire school!

In order to purchase, you must build your ad for your senior online with our yearbook company, Jostens at www.jostens.com/yearbookads

You will need to pay, create, and submit the ad online. This allows you to submit pictures, text, and design online; you don't have to mail anything in or wait for your pictures to be returned to you! Begin by going to www.jostens.com/yearbookads and simply follow their instructions!

In order to guarantee a space for your student's ad in the yearbook, submissions must be made by

December 17th.

Senior Ads were a large part of my own high school experience and I loved seeing childhood photos of myself and my classmates in my own yearbook, so please consider adding your student's memories to this wonderful tradition at Foran! If you have any questions please contact me, Meghan Condon, at mcondon@milforded.org; we can't wait to start creating with you!
