Foran Veterans Given Quilts of Honor
Mr. Dillon and Mr. Grillo were both presented with Quilts of Honor made by Mrs. Peggy Wilson, Paraeducator at Foran. These quilts are made to honor our Veterans and presented to them by draping them in the quilt. The quilts are registered with Quilts of Honor. The mission of Quilts of Honor is to bestow a universal symbol and token of thanks, solace, and remembrance to those who serve in harm’s way to protect and defend our lives and freedoms.
Quilts of Honor are made by the loving hands of countless volunteers who wish to thank those who have served and to honor their service and sacrifice.
These quilts have been “in the works” since pre-Covid and were presented today to recognize and honor Mr. Dillon and Mr. Grillo.

This week, students in the French 2 course learned that, after 129 years, France is returning museum artifacts to their rightful owners in the country of Bénin in Western Africa. This comes after a French law was passed last year to allow the restitution of these statues. These articles were seized in November of 1892 during the era of empire and colony when French troops broke into the palace of King Behanzin in the kingdom of Dahomey in the south of present-day Bénin. Upon the army’s return to France, the artifacts were donated to Paris museums where they have been ever since. The artifacts have been credited with inspiring artists from France and elsewhere but returning them will allow African youth to have access to their own heritage in Africa. This has been described as a “historic milestone,” and the beginning of further cooperation between France and Bénin.
Students in Mrs. Navroth's Spanish 2 class are learning school-related vocabulary. This week, they are designing posters which display various school rules in Spanish. Mrs. Navroth will display the posters in her classroom!
Instructional Technology Teacher Leader, Juliet Goraieb, joined Mrs. Rowley's AP Human Geography class this week to teach students how to create their own websites in order to keep all of their courses and supporting materials organized in one central digital hub.
To celebrate Martin Gardner's birthday, the Math Club created Hexaflexagons to explore symmetry, diagramming and art connections!
Advanced Photography Students Explore Art and Science
These advanced photography students are capturing images that document the phenomena of convection. Convection is energy that is transferred by the movement of matter, liquid, or gas. It occurs when a cooler, denser mass of gas or liquid replaces a warmer, less dense mass of gas or liquid by pushing it upward. Convection is the major factor in weather. The sun heats the earth’s surface and when cooler air comes in contact with it, the air warms and rises, creating an upward current in the atmosphere. The current can result in the wind, clouds, or other weather.
In class students worked with either hot or cold water to capture the interaction of the water with food coloring. In order to capture the “action” of the transfer of energy in a properly exposed image, students made adjustments to their ISO and shutter speed. These creative students also found a new, creative use for their Chromebooks as they considered how to light their subjects.
Students in Mrs. Plude’s AP Studio Art course are finishing up their first Sustained Investigation piece for their Portfolio exam submission this spring. The work below shows a student creating a sculpture of her cat in a depressed state illustrating the emotions she felt during quarantine projected on her pet who became her support animal. The other piece is part of a garment representing ‘the American Dream’ through the lens of her Turkish immigrant Family who came here to live out that dream.
Rocket Launches!
Mr. Dillon’s Engineering class launched water rockets this morning from the baseball field.
The students used the engineering design process to design, build, and test a rocket that would carry an egg at least 100 feet in the air and survive impact without the use of a parachute. This simulates some of the challenges that engineers with NASA and SpaceX face when delivering equipment to Mars. The students used 2 liter bottles for the propulsion and cargo systems and had to choose materials for the fins and cargo protection based upon their individual team's research.
Students designed and implemented a lesson focused on healthy eating this week in the learning center.
In Human Growth and Development, students wrote Parenting styles scripts focusing on a challenging behavior to demonstrate the different ways parents/caregivers guide their children and teens.
Culinary l continues with our bake unit. They made a delicious cornbread with buttermilk, and learned about the history of Civil War cornbread.
The Peer Assist Culinary Class, prepared a vegetarian skillet dish with plant based "meat," wild rice, quinoa, peppers, zucchini, onions, and scallions.

SENIOR PARENT & FAMILY AD
Congratulations on reaching this momentous stage in your child's high school years! Have you been looking for a creative way to tell your senior "I love you" and "I'm proud of you!" as they wrap up their high school career? If so, how about purchasing a Senior Parent and Family Ad in the yearbook?
To help you celebrate this milestone, the yearbook staff is now accepting orders for Senior Parent and Family Ads to be placed in the yearbook. These ads give you the opportunity to express your love, pride, and congratulations to the entire school!
In order to purchase, you must build your ad for your senior online with our yearbook company, Jostens at www.jostens.com/yearbookads.
You will need to pay, create, and submit the ad online. This allows you to submit pictures, text, and design online; you don't have to mail anything in or wait for your pictures to be returned to you! Begin by going to www.jostens.com/yearbookads and simply follow their instructions!
In order to guarantee a space for your student's ad in the yearbook, submissions must be made by December 17th.
Senior Ads were a large part of my own high school experience and I loved seeing childhood photos of myself and my classmates in my own yearbook, so please consider adding your student's memories to this wonderful tradition at Foran! If you have any questions please contact me, Meghan Condon, at mcondon@milforded.org; we can't wait to start creating with you!

Influences on Youth Forum
A program REQUIRED for all 9th graders and their parents
A YouTube Forum to be viewed by both students/parents together between
Monday November 15th and Friday November 21st.
The directions on how to access the forum on YouTube will be posted beginning November 15 at:
https://milfordprevention.org/freshmanforum2021/
Ninth grade students AND their parents/guardians are required to view this important program. The purpose of this event is to promote dialogue and provide information regarding the physical, social, legal and emotional influences of illegal substances and social media on our students.
Due to COVID-19 circumstances, we are hosting this forum virtually this year. All participants should follow the Milford Public Schools distance learning expectations. Student participation at this forum fulfills an assignment within the Health curriculum. Should your child not be able to view this program, he/she will be asked to complete a 2-3 page research/ writing assignment on a related topic in order to independently fulfill their obligation and make them aware of the aspects of these complex issues addressed by the forum.
At the conclusion of this forum, there will be two steps that must be completed to earn proper credit for this assignment:
Both the student AND their parent/guardian will complete a survey about the presenters and submit it via SurveyMonkey.
The parent/guardian must sign off on an attendance form and submit it via Google Form. Once completed, you/your child will be entered into a drawing for prizes such an Amazon Gift Card, tickets to the Thanksgiving Day football game between Foran and Law and a t-shirt!!
