Post Prom Meeting & Volunteers Needed!

Senior events will be here before you know it.  As you know, May 19th is the Senior Prom.  The Post Prom will be held at In Sports in Trumbull.  Post Prom is completely separate from the prom and is a family run volunteer event.  If you are interested in volunteering, please attend our meeting on Tuesday, March 21 at 6pm in the Foran cafeteria.  If you are unable to attend but would like to volunteer, please contact Lauren Janik at ljanik12@yahoo.com or 203-996-4003.

We need volunteers for many areas such as chaperones, picking up food and delivering to post prom, buying snacks for post prom, selling tickets, organizers for the transportation, raffle coordination, and much more.  If you can't assist that evening, there is plenty to do beforehand.

We hope you can join us on March 21st at 6pm.

Music In Our Schools Month!

Last week the Foran String Orchestra students participated in American electric violinist Mark Wood's Electrify Your Symphony experience which culminated in an all city strings concert including students from Grades 5-12. Our 35 string musicians performed phenomenally well, collaborating with the Law High School orchestra, with some playing on 4 and 5 string electric violins for the first time! Bravo!"

An amazing night at Electrify your Symphony! Fantastic music and support for the arts. What a great opportunity for all our Milford orchestra students!

We had an amazing rehearsal with students from the East Shore 8th grade band!  What fantastic musicians!! I can’t wait for them to be members of the Foran Band!

It was awesome to welcome the Harborside, West Shore and Law Bands to the Foran Stage for music in our school's month.  What a tremendous night of music!

On Monday 3/13 the Foran Choir joined forces with the Law Choir and sang "Elijah Rock" and "Seeking Light" at the opening of  the Milford Board of Education meeting for Music in Our Schools Month.

In AP Seminar, students are challenged to think critically, collaborate & apply academic research skills. Today, teams of Foran researchers presented their findings on a variety of real-world issues and proposed potential research-based solutions.

FORAN CHOPPED!

The 5th and 7th period Advanced Culinary classes competed in a Chopped cooking challenge this week. Students were required to use all the surprise basket ingredients to create an appetizer in twenty minutes, and an entree in thirty minutes, if they moved on to the next round. No devices were allowed to look up a recipe. The finished dishes were judged by a panel of three Foran High School staff members per class.

The Chopped challenge was fun, stressful, and educational. Students were tested under pressure to combine spices, various flavor profiles, and ingredients in a short amount of time.  The feedback from the judges was a lesson and teaching experience in itself for the students. I'm beyond proud to see the team work, communication, and progress they've all made. Bravo!

Miss Randy's Bakeshop classes ended the bread and yeast unit with homemade cinnamon rolls. The cinnamon rolls were light and fluffy, and filled the hallways of Foran High School with the warm aroma of cinnamon. Within this unit, we also prepare French Baguettes, potato rolls, homemade cake donuts, and bagels. I think we have some future bakers in the class.

Students in Child Growth and Development chose developmentally appropriate books  and created interactive props to support a specific area of development for a book project. Students read, questioned, and engaged with the children for their final presentation.

Students in Ms. Plude’s AP Studio Art class have been diligently finishing off their pieces for their portfolio submission to the College Board. Each student’s individual body of work is a reflective investigation of questions they have about their life experiences and the world around them.

Isabella Speringo

Students in Mrs. Buchanan’s Spanish 3 classes have been studying art and culture within Mexico and Spain. In one activity they picked any famous painting, wrote descriptions of those paintings, and read those descriptions to their partners. Students then drew what they heard and these are the results!

Students continue to present their research on historic volcanic activity and its effects on human culture throughout the ages. We were even given a demonstration of the movement of magma and lava flows through the use of everyday household objects!

Students in Mr. Cain and Mr. Hair's Health class explored the topic of Daylight Savings Time (D.S.T) and how it impacts their health. Students researched the historical significance of D.S.T. and how it impacts their sleep schedule. Additionally, students analyzed reported claims that heart attacks, workplace injuries, and motor vehicle accidents are more severe and frequent on the Monday following the Spring Daylight Savings Time transition. Students then engaged in a spirited debate as to whether or not we should continue the practice of Daylight Savings Time in the future.
