Students in Mrs. Navroth's Spanish 3 class have been studying Mexican artist and global pop icon Frida Kahlo, who is considered one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century. Students learned about Frida's life and about the impact that she made in the world of art and beyond.   Kahlo was known for her self-portraits, and students created their own self-portraits emulating Frida's surrealist style.

On Tuesday, 3/7, the Mane Street Mirror released our annual feature story edition. This edition includes longer stories, with a more in depth style of writing. Here are some articles that hit our site this week:

The Death of Tyre Nichols

Connor Nieman and Cal Wrigley

Remembering Ms. Sandor

Gavin Fanelli

Manager Marchessault

Cian Carroll and Jimmy D'Angelo

A Behind the Scenes Look at the Job of Mayor Ben Blake

Rumeysa Bayram and Jocelyn Gonzalez

Stamidis Journey Through Self Publishing a Book

Ellie Pasacreta and Gianna Weaver

In English 2, we are studying Transcendentalism and the essays of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau.  Students had to work in groups to select comic strips (like Calvin and Hobbes, Peanuts) and identify which pillar or tenet of Transcendentalism the comic strips were displaying.  Those pillars include Free Thought, Non-Conformity, The Importance of Nature, Self-Reliance, Confidence, and Simplicity.  Students were asked to write an analysis of the comic and how it connects to the pillar, as well as use text evidence from the writers being studied to support their ideas.

Mr. Cesare spoke to Mrs. Farrell's Journalism 1 class about Watergate and President Nixon for part of our unit on investigative journalism. Students are viewing " All the President's Men" and responding.

In Mr. Hair’s PE-1 classes, students completed their fitness testing this week.

In Mr. Hair’s strength and conditioning classes, students have been finishing up their personal fitness logs.
