Parents/guardians will once again have the opportunity to select a conference time through My Conference Time. All conferences will be in person unless a parent/guardian requests a Google Meet link directly from the teacher. Miss Emerald Isle 2023
Miss Emerald Isle is a leadership role in the Milford community. Alana was selected because of her Irish heritage and commitment to community service. She will participate in various fundraising activities for the Milford St. Patrick’s Day parade. Along with this she gets to be in the parade on March 11th.
To become Miss Emerald Isle you have to apply and write an essay about your heritage, community service, and why you want to be Miss Emerald Isle as well as completing an interview. Through being selected to be Miss Emerald Isle 2023 Alana has made the commitment to the Milford community to be a good role model for many years to come.

Visual Arts students here at Foran were invited to participate in a commissioned painting opportunity and contest. Dr. Esposito put out a request for art , so the ceiling tiles in his procedure rooms at the Milford Vascular Institute would have soothing and mindfully designed paintings created by some of our school’s talented visual art students.
Students in AP Environmental Science tested varying concentrations of biodegradable materials (milk) on biological oxygen demand (BOD) and dissolved oxygen to model the effect of sewage on dissolved oxygen levels.
Journalism was featured on Wednesday from the Journalism Education Association and Scholastic Journalism week.
We are happy to engage in lessons from the JEA.
Today, journalism 2 students worked on writing deep in the story and finding a focus by interviewing their partners. We watched a clip from Edward Murrow on the Korean War and practiced finding our own story.

In AP Psychology, students in Mr. Williams' classes got to see how well they recognize emotions from pictures and how the 3 theories of emotion are factored in. Later in the week, they also got to experience a little self induced stress as they collected data while playing the game Perfection, which was then applied to various concepts in their Motivation, Emotion, & Personality unit.
Students in Mrs. Kaminski's English class practiced presentation skills using a poster project based on famous inventors. We have been learning about clever inventions and students conducted research and created posters on a number of different inventors; ranging from Alexander Graham Bell to Elon Musk. They shared interesting facts that they learned from their classmates.
The Foran High School Athletic Department and The Foran Sports Booster Club have teamed up to honor a deserving varsity athlete each week of the season throughout the 2022-2023 school year. Each recipient will be recognized for their performance in the “Friday News” and they will also receive a tee shirt.

Amanda Graziani has been selected for her outstanding performance in the hurdles. Only a sophomore, Amanda qualified this year for the SCC Championships and also the CIAC Class “M” State Championships. Amanda continues to work hard and is preparing for a great outdoor track season this spring as well. Congratulations Amanda!

Congratulations to Faith Doyle and Ava Deitelbaum on earning All SCC Honors. What a great accomplishment for these two sophomores. Keep working hard as the future is very bright.

Wrestling
Congratulations to the Foran high school wrestling team on their third place finish at the class M state championships last weekend. They finished only eight points out of first place!
The Lions had seven wrestlers finishing the top six and qualified for this weekend. State open championships.
Jagger Rees finished sixth, Joe Cichowski and Keith Pokornowski finished third, and Tony Perez, Craig Mager, and Mason Hallstrom finished second.
Senior Antonio Madero won his second straight class M state championship at 126 pounds!

Indoor Track
The Indoor Track Season came to a close on Saturday, Feb. 18th with the CIAC State Open Championships, held at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven. This meet is extremely difficult to qualify for, however two athletes from the team, Isaiah Moore and Xavier Douglas did make it into the meet. Isaiah equaled his best jump of the season and placed 8th in the High Jump while in the Long Jump, Xavier placed a solid 15th.
Swimming
The boys swim team has been preparing for their Southern Connecticut Conference this week. The SCC qualifier meet will be at the Cheshire Community Pool on Monday February 27th at 4:00pm. SCC finals will be held at SCSU on Wednesday March 1st at 4:30 pm.
Congratulations to Senior Cheerleaders Jonna Lord, Luciana Cappello and Julia DeEll on making the All-State Class M Cheer Team this year!! Luci also received the All Academic Honor! Congrats to all of them!
