October 11 Family Weekly

Dear ESMS Families,

Happy Friday! Thank you to our families who attended our PTA meeting this past Tuesday - we appreciate your support. This week, SRO Loschiavo presented to each grade on responsible use of social media with a focus on digital footprints and responsible decision making. In advisory on Thursday, students engaged in a scenario that involved passing a ball of yarn around, which resulted in a tangled web, to demonstrate how quickly information spreads. Students discussed their role in the scenario and identified alternative actions. Finally, students reflected on how their individual choices impact both themselves and each other.

A reminder: Tuesday and Wednesday are early release days due to conferences. All middle school students will be dismissed at 12:35 pm.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR: The Scholastic Book Fair is happening next week, October 14th through October 17th. We will be open during conferences and during the school day! All purchases through the Book Fair benefit students at East Shore Middle School. Thanks for supporting our kids - click here for more information.

On Friday, October 18th, ESMS is wearing pink and collecting money for the Get In Touch Foundation which supports breast health education for all.

CONFERENCES: Information is below, and the link is live. We are pleased to announce our Fall 2024 Middle School Conference Schedule: Tuesday, October 15th, 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. AND Wednesday, October 16th 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. *Please note that we will have a modified early dismissal time on the conference days to accommodate the conference schedule. Therefore, students will be dismissed on October 15th and October 16th at 12:35 pm.

Parents/guardians can select a conference time through My Conference Time. All conferences will be in person unless a parent/guardian requests a Google Meet link directly from the teacher. Fall conference sign up information is live on our school website today, Friday, October 4th, at 9:00 a.m. through Monday, October 14th, at 12:00 p.m. If you prefer a virtual session, please contact the teacher to request a Google Meet link to conduct your conference virtually after you have confirmed your conference time through My Conference Time Online Scheduler. We are looking forward to meeting with you to discuss your child’s learning! Veterans Day Celebration: East Shore Middle School proudly presents “Take a Veteran to School Day.” In honor of Veterans Day, ESMS students and staff would like to invite our family and friends who are veterans to visit our ESMS learning community on Friday, November 8 from 8:30-10:15 a.m. Our veteran guests will attend a ceremony and then share their experiences of patriotic and military service with a small group of students. If you have a veteran family member who would like to attend please click here to access our Veterans Day flyer which can be completed and submitted to your student’s Social Studies teacher by Wednesday, October 30th.

A MESSAGE FROM THE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT- If your student attends high school football games, please remind them of the expected behavior: no noise makers or personal athletic balls are allowed in games. Security will confiscate any of these that they see at the gate. It is also important to note behavior at games. Students are there to support the Foran High School football team and/or band. Running around the stands and disruptive behavior will not be permitted at games to ensure safety.
